The Importance of Number 7 for Wedding Ceremonies and Life Events

by | Apr 3, 2022 | Celebrant, Toastmaster, Uncategorized, Weddings

The number 7 for wedding ceremonies and life events bears a special significance in many cultures. I feel like it’s important to acknowledge it, because it will play a vital role in the proceedings, especially among Hindu and other religious weddings.

The number 7 exists across many different forms of marriage, spanning multiple religions and cultures. You might recognise it within your faith, but did you know it exists elsewhere?

Wedding Ceremonies and the Importance of Ritual and Symbolism

Let’s take a look at the importance of the number 7 for wedding ceremonies and life events. You’ll probably begin to work out that this is an essential component for many different weddings. Plus, I can help you get the wedding ceremony or life event that you’ve always dreamt of.

I know that the importance of this can be tricky to understand if you’re new to the world of life events and wedding ceremonies, so I’m going to talk a bit about what you need to know.

The Number 7 for Wedding Ceremonies and Life Events

So, as you can probably begin to work out, the number seven exists across various religions and faiths, usually playing a part in the wedding ceremony.

A prominent example is called Saptapadi, (seven steps). This is a core part of a Hindu marriage ceremony, which states that the husband and wife take seven steps representing the seven principles and promises they make to each other.

Seven frequently appears in Jewish weddings, for several different reasons:

The bride will circle the groom seven times which demonstrates that the groom is the center of the bride’s life.

Circling seven times also represents the sevenfold bond established between the bride, groom, and their respective families.

There are also the seven blessings, (Sheva Brachot), These are the heart of the Jewish wedding ceremony. Seven different blessings are bestowed upon the couple when they are standing under the chuppah

How you count the Christian vows could also be considered as seven

“I, ___, take thee, ___, to be my wedded husband/wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God’s holy ordinance; and thereto I pledge thee my faith [or] pledge myself to you.”

The number seven also appears in an Islamic Wedding. It is believed that the number 7 is a direct link to the power of the divine. There is a tradition that seven women who are already married touch the bride’s wedding outfit and bless them with a happy marriage.

And let’s not forget that we have seven days in a week.

I’d love to know if you have any other examples to share with me.

An independent celebrant will not only allow you to celebrate your way but will often be used to bridge the gap between two people marrying from different religions or simply allowing for a ceremony without restriction

Your wedding ceremony should be unique to you and should focus on the things that you consider to be important. In some cases, religion and faith can clash with the dream vision for a wedding that a person might have, so I am capable of bridging the gap between the two and finding a compromise that works for everybody.

Because I am not bound to a single religion or faith, I am capable of creating bespoke ceremonies that cater exclusively to your needs. I specialise in delivering personalised content to emphasise respecting the values of the couple, and their families.

I remain committed to delivering the best possible experiences, because I understand that a ceremony like this may occur only once in a lifetime. Obviously, there is big pressure to get it right, and I am more than happy to help you.

The specific needs and requirements of your event will be no problem at all. I’m more than happy to work with you to make sure that you get whatever you need, because I understand how important it can be for you to see success on your special day. I wholeheartedly encourage you to ask any particular questions or queries you might have.
